This is the fourth volume in the Black Butler series. While I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as the previous three books, this was still a very entertaining book. It is beautifully drawn and very intriguing as well as humorous and entertaining.In this book we meet a young Indian prince and his bodyguard; they are looking for a young woman named Mina and would like Ciel’s help. Ciel is called to act in his role as protector of the crown when Anglo Indians are found stripped and hung upside down from shops in multiple incidents.This manga continues to be very well done. We find a bit more about Ciel’s history and how Sebastian ended up serving him. We also learn a bit more about the Phantomhive business interests and how they are connected to the crown. All of it was very interesting and fun to read about.This book wasn’t quite as good as the last two books (it ends up being a bit more silly) but it was still highly entertaining. The manga is beautifully drawn and has a lot of wonderful detail throughout.Overall an excellent addition to the Black Butler series. I would recommend to those who enjoy manga with both historical and paranormal elements. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!

Black Butler VII begins with Ciel and Sebastian, having infiltrated the Noah's Ark Circus, trying to find out what has happened to all the missing children around England that disappeared whenever the circus is in town. They come into contact with Baron Kelvin, the "father" of the circus, and there are clues to Ciel's past and the past of the Phantomhive family.The final page of this volume gave me a touch of gooseflesh. The dark, Victorian setting, along with the Satanic/supernatural elements really worked for me. Sure, in the West we have the Devil and the Grim Reaper, but in Japanese folklore, which is borrowed for this series, there are many devils and many grim reapers. The series would probably be stronger if instead, there were two classes of demon, but at its heart, Black Butler is a manga, and a good one. ****1/2

I've never really been much of a manga reader. But I was so in love with Black Butler from the moment I started watching the anime that I decided to read the manga because I've heard that the two stories are different. Though the story has yet to venture to far from the anime yet, I am far from disappointed! The story and characters are great and the artwork is wonderful. So far reading this manga has been a whole new experience and now I'm finding myself addicted! You should definitely read this series even if you've never really read manga before. Because if you loved the anime as much as did, then I'm sure you'll love the manga!

Of all of the arcs that I have read so far in this series (even from the anime), the Circus arc in the manga has earned No. 1 in my list. I remember reading the beginning volumes of the series of how it made me laugh with the characters' antics and the relationships among the characters but as each volume pass by, it becomes more serious and dark. This right here definitely turns into a serious and creepy situation as it continues from the last volume.In this volume, it definitely gives you an idea of how the main circus characters grew up and what they were before, and also gives you a back story of how the main villain became who he is in the current plot.I am sad of how the volume ended, living me in a cliffhanger. Oh well, looking forward to reading more.

See even tho i've already read these over the internet at least 3 times over, i still buy them. they are amazing. the art is beautiful, the storyline both hilarious and suspenseful. full of smooth action, emotions, lies, truths, darkness. Yana Toboso is a genius in creating that perfect balance of elegance, action, darkness, and comedy into a near perfect story.if you haven't bought the other books, do it. they are every bit as amazing. the circus arc that's included in the previous volume and continues in this volume is one of my all time favorite arcs so far in the series. beautiful, cunning, powerful, captivating. I can't go anymore into detail without spoilers, but i can't recommend this book and series enough.one more thing. the circus arc is not over until the next volume. so the story doesnt end with this book :)

I know not many people like my Black Butler Vol 3 review, but I did find the stooge characters over the top, and taking up way too much of the story. Vol 4 was excellent though. I really like the way Black Butler's story line is going, and the how we're learning more about Ciel's past (dark dark dark). We also are introduced to new `interesting' characters and though one of them, the Prince, is a little flamboyant, his own butler made up for it, and when the stooges were center stage, they were still overshadowed by the new characters' personalities.There have been odd happenings in the city, one where English Indians (English citizens who went over to India) are being hung upside down from public places in their underwear with a note that seems to mean something else. Ciel and Sebastian will have to travel through the Indian portion of the city where gangs run rampant, and they don't like English citizens, in order to unravel the mystery.There was so much going on in this volume that I'm excited for the next one rather than just happy to have something to read. I want to see more of Sebastian in his demon form, and I absolutely love it when he `teases' Ciel, Vol 5 will be out at the end of April.

I'll admit that I am one for darker books and from what I'd heard I was already prepared for it to get much more serious and morbid--I wasn't disappointed. I loved this book as much, if not more than, the previous books and look forward to the next volumes! But a bit of a warning for those who are more sensitive or squeamish: you might wanna stop here.

My 3 year old daughter loves this story! It’s a great bedtime reading. This story talks about friendship and to not judge a person from their appearance. She also enjoys the princess beginning stories for Ariel and Belle.Ariel’s story talks about realizing who you are is GREAT and feeling confident in yourself.Belle’s story talks about the magic of reading and how to fit in with the friends while embracing the differences that make you special.Plus, all of these books include several whimsical color drawings throughout the story. Which helps bring them to life for children.Side note: I bought Cinderella through Amazon. I bought Belle and Ariel at a local book store.

Purchase Arielle, Belle and Cinderella. Two of the books are the same size and the third one is slightly larger, so they don't all match in size, which you think they would being in the same series. Other than that, they seem to be a great product for the price.

Excellently written with a charming story and cute illustrations. Perfect for teaching little girls to be strong and kind to others.

My 7 year old daughter really enjoys these books and was thrilled to get more for Christmas. They are fun little stories about the princesses when they were younger and are great to read together.

This book is part of the Disney Princess Beginnings set. They are very enjoyable and easy for young readers to read. Each book has a lesson and nice pictures. Our family reads them together and each child helps read.

My 7 year old loves this Disney Princess Beginnings series. She's loved every one she's read and enjoys imagining what the princesses were like as children.

My daughter loves thee books. She started reading them at 5.5 and it was a little bit of a challenge and now she's 6 and reading through them with no problem. They are perfect for beginner readers!

These are great stories and have a good words to pictures balance for emerging readers.

About the Author

Georges Roux was a French writer born in Salon-de-Provence in 1914. The son of an army officer, he lived for 12 years with his parents in Syria and Lebanon before returning to study medicine at the University of Paris, graduating in 1941. While practicing medicine he also pursued oriental studies at the École des Hautes Études. In 1950 he became a medical officer for the Iraq Petroleum Company, staying for two years in Qatar and seven in Iraq. Between 1956 and 1960 he wrote for the IPC's widely read journal, the articles of which eventually became Ancient Iraq, the authoritative work on political, cultural, and socioeconomic history from Mesopotamia days of prehistory to the Christian era. First published in English in 1964, the work has also been translated into French, Arabic, Spanish, and Polish.

I bought this book to follow up on a wonderful podcast of ancient history which I'd enjoyed:"The Ancient World" by Scott Chetworth[...]I did so with some trepidation, because "Ancient Iraq"looked rather imposing, which made me fear that it would cover the history of ancient Mesopotamia in much more detail than I would be able to digest.My fears were unjustified. The book is thorough, but neither goes into over-exhaustive detail nor is written in turgid academic prose. Moreover the history that this book tells is so old and so unknown to most people that it has a unique fascination. One is being shown a very, very different civilization from our own, almost impossibly distant in space and time, yet recognizably human. The process of discovering that strange old world is intrinsically interesting, and the author of this book is a great guide to it.One of the best things about reading history is that it lets you learn about human nature by seeing what amazing variations have been wrung upon the basic theme of "civilization". This history book is a perfect example of that.

My family is Assyrian/Chaldean. I've been writing about and researching Mesopotamia (now -- sort of -- Iraq) for well over a decade. I read this book three times, detailing the research laid out by the author, and still could read it again and find more. It is an unbiased, EXCELLENT and scholarly analysis of actual findings from the region. There are plenty of pieces of this cradle of civilization to uncover via other resources, however, this is a wonderful work of masterful research and thoughtful, but unimposing observation. HIGHLY recommend.

I appreciated Georges Roux's book on "Ancient Iraq" very much. At over 400 pages, it is hard to call the book a survey, but it is. The problem is that the topic itself is enormous, spanning over 3000 years and encompassing multiple, complex civilizations. Additionally, since the topic itself is so old, predating the rise of "classical" Greece, information upon which the book is based is almost always incomplete and frequently of questionable veracity. So when an author like Roux overcomes these problems and still manages to create a truly fun book to read, you can appreciate his accomplishment all the more.The book starts off with a very nice and relatively thorough description of ancient Iraqi geography and Iraqi civilizations predating the Uruk period, which began roughly 3500 BC and is considered the first "historic" period--where a written language was used. After that, the book delves into the better-known Sumerian civilizations, Akkad, Third Dynasty Ur, Babylon, etc. I especially appreciated his sections on the Aramaens, Urartians, Kassites, and other less well-written-about civilizations. I'm sure Roux could have written entire books on "Neo-Assyria" or "Neo-Babylon", but the overview he provides did enough to get me interested.I was occasionally concerned that the book was outdated because, in its origins, it started out as a compilation of essays Roux wrote between 1956 and 1960 for a now defunct magazine called Iraqi Petroleum. Admittedly, the book was re-edited in 1991 and is now in its third edition, but I just didn't get the feeling it was thoroughly updated except for one small section. On the other hand, the constant fighting in the country since the last edition has probably hindered and prevented much work on the topic, so you can make an argument that the state of the art hasn't advanced much since the book was written, except for scholarship taking place outside of current day Iraq.Unfortunately, the book is also severely lacking in images. Roux offers only 15 black and white glossy pictures inserted in a bundle in the middle of the book. There are perhaps 10 basic drawing diagrams scattered throughout as well. Could have been better. You can try Googling for images.Nevertheless and regardless of all the above, the book itself is very well written and scholarly. Roux has an enormous enthusiasm for the topic, and I had a hard time putting the book down. I wanted to give the book a 5-star rating, but after going over what I just wrote, it's got to be a 4.

A a Relative Layperson on this Topic, I Have Purchased Several Books on the Topic Looking at Ancient History and Societies in General.Its Not Simple to Read but it IS "readable". I learn something new and useful every time I read it ... or re-read parts of it.So far, Out of Several Books on this General Topic, this is the one I would Recommend First

I'm a big fan of ancient history, particularly concerning the ancient Near East. I never came across a "must read" book on this topic until I read this one. In fact, you shouldn't even read a book on the ancient Near East until completing this one first. If you look at other books of this topic, you'll see this one referenced over and over, which is what led me to read it. This book is just over-flowing with well-written, wonderfully interesting information. I wish it was twice as long! Read and enjoy!

Highly readable and comprehensive survey of Mesopotamian history. For anyone interested in the cultural surroundings of the Old Testament this will be a pleasant surprise. This book is focused on the history of the great empires of that region with only a few mentions of Israel, Judah and the characters of those states. But for someone who would like to understand the O. T. better, this will help immensely.
