GEORGE LAKEY has been active in direct action campaigns for six decades. Recently retired from Swarthmore College, where he was the Eugene M. Lang Visiting Professor for Issues of Social Change, Lakey was first arrested at a civil rights demonstration in March 1963, and his most recent arrest was March 29, 2018, as a participant in the Power Local Green Jobs Campaign. He lives in Philadelphia.

Very well written, this story follows the life and times in Arabia of the founder of modern day Saudi Arabia and his sons from the early years of the 20th Century through the 1970's. The author pays close attention to the mind set of these Arab leaders that is essential to understanding the attitudes and motives of later Saudi rules right up to current times. If you want to understand what drives the Saudi society and government today, you need to read this book to gain an understanding of the foundiing family.

Very informative! This book deserves more attention than it has received. Well written!

Matches up well to what I learned about Saudi Arabia by working there in the 1990's, plus background info I was unaware of at the time. Exceptionally interesting.

An absolute classicAnd perhaps required reading

This is an excellent history of Saudi Arabia. While you may not really care about their history -- you should, because it goes a long way towards explaning why we are in the mess we are today with our overwhelming dependence on oil and foreign oil. Yes, I'm a left-wing tree-hugging oil-spill-hating liberal, but I have no love lost for either political party and am sick to death of being patronized by them on this issue. "The Kingdom" educated me so that I can make intelligent arguments to my elected officials, whether they listen or not. Highly recommend, worth spending the money on even a used copy, too bad it's out of print.

An excellent book and crucial to an understanding of the formation and history of Saudi Arabia.

I knew far less than I should have about the kingdom's history. This one by him history was remarkably helpful.While it concludes several decades ago, that is also something of a plus; Because this provided a historical view which allowed me to judge the writers wisdom ( which seemed very high) by what I know of events that he had only predicted.His predictions, in 1970, of what was to become the radical religious torment of our time, was all but inspired.

I was pleasantly surprised to find references to NACE material standards.It is a good book and I recommended it.If you are looking at cartridge valve info. (poppet or spool), this book does not present or study these type of valves.
