I purchased this travel book specifically because it had a 2011 date, however, this book has clearly not been updated in years. The hotel where I stayed (Villa la Estancia) opened around 2005 and was not listed in this book. Many of the shops and restaurants listed were closed. The book itself was fine if it had been up to date. Having the 2011 copyright date is a complete misrepresentation and the publisher should clearly state that although the book may have been printed in 2011, it has not been updated since.....2005 or 2006.
Had no issues with this guide except that our hotel was not listed. We stayed at a sister hotel to one of the "big chains" (Playa los Arcos) - we got all of the amenities while only being 1 block further from the beach (read: one block total) and saved a bundle (Casa Dona Susana, if you're wondering - gorgeous and very "local" feeling). In any case, we found good restaurants from this guide and also good entertainment. Gave our guide to friends who are traveling there soon.
Huge space devoted to restaurants. It did not go into much detail on some of the places I would like though (the Botanical Gardens) and the Zoo was not mentioned at all. Very good resource for planning a trip there (possibly the best).
This is a good concise guide to Puerto Vallarta. Would have liked a more expanded section on accomadations and dining. Found most of their comments to be spot on. We found supplemental information through Trip Advisor and Chowhound websites.
I was very glad I had this book for my recent trip to Puerto Vallarta. The "Fodor's Choices" for restaurants were particularly helpful. With Fodor's help we had good food that didn't break the bank, and we saw the key sights of Puerto Vallarta. In the future, I won't travel without Fodor's.
The guide was very handy in finding good restaurants after we had our fill of the all inclusive meals at our hotel. Went with Fodors choices and was not dissapointed at all , and the maps made them a snap to find. We are going back next Feb and will bring the book to explore more beaches we didn't have time for this year. Enjoy, Steve
I ordered this book thinking it was the latest publication .... as the price would indicate that. It was 4 years behind and when traveling in P.V... three of the places this book suggested were no longer in operation. Very frustrating.
A great overview of the sites in Puerto Vallarta. This book was extrememly helpful during our visit.
