The map of the country is fairly good for most parts of the country, although since the map was published, some significant changes have been made, especially Ca 1 on the north side of San Salvador. The inset map of San Salvador is almost worthless, since it very small and has only a few street names.
This is the best map of El Salvador I could find in the US. There are better maps available in El Salvador, but I'm not sure how you would get one of them without going there. The map cuts off small parts of the extreme northern and southern parts of the country; it also leaves out some small towns and dirt roads. If you plan to visit only major cities and towns, this map should be fine. If you need more detail, you might consider picking up something when you get there.
There is a newer, waterproof, edition available, published in January 2015. The new edition also covers Nicaragua. Please search Amazon for ASIN 1553413504.
